How to Care for Your Vinyl

Cleaning Tips

~ Clean floors only with products recommended by the manufacturer.

~ Wipe up spills as soon as possible with a clean, lightly dampened cloth and a cleaning product recommended by the manufacturer.

~ Sweep or vacuum floor regularly to remove dirt and gritty particles. which may lead to scratches/dents.

~ Do not use dish soap, wax or oil based cleaners, ammonia, scouring pads, steel wool pads, or any products containing acid or bleach as part of routine maintenance.

Other Helpful Tips

~ Use felt protective pads under furniture to prevent scratching.

~ Do not slide or drag heavy furniture across your floor, use protective mats or lift.

~ Use floor mats in high traffic areas that are susceptible to moisture and/or dirt (i.e. near entrance/exit ways). Do not use a rubber-backed floor mat.

~ If your driveway has ever been sealed use extreme caution, as the sealer can get on the soles of shoes and will cause permanent yellowing in the vinyl that can not be cleaned.

~ Do not use rubber-backed mats or coco-fiber mats as they are known to cause yellow stains in luxury vinyl floors.

Humidity Levels

~ Even though luxury vinyl is a man-made product, it will still expand and contact depending on the humidity levels in your home. The ideal relative humidity in your home for hardwood flooring is 30-50%.

~ In the spring and summer when the temperature and humidity levels rise, it is recommended you use a de-humidifier frequently during these months, failure to do so may cause cupping.

~ In the fall and winter when the temperature drops and the air in your home becomes drier. It is recommended you use a humidifier frequently during these months, failure to do so may cause noticeable cracks between boards.

~ Vinyl plank should be in your home no less than 24 hours prior to installation, so that it can acclimate to your home’s atmosphere.
